March 190BEGE 28 MAR 07

Sir,

In reply to your letter of the 16th Instant, No. 8529/1907. concerning candidates for the post of Assistant Land Surveyor in Hongkong. There are no single men employed on the Ordnance Survey between the ages of

23 and 28 who quite possess the experience and qualification

in all the classes of work indicated in your letter, but there are a few very promising young men with general experience of Survey work who have a thorough knowledge of

the use of the Theodolite, and who, with some further

actual experience of trigonometrical work, would very soon

acquire sufficient facility at it to satisfactorily fill

the post in question, and I am inclined to think that one

of these men would be better suited for it than any one

likely to be found in the open market.

Of the men who have volunteered, I recommend as best suited for the post

Mr George C. McIntosh.

whose qualifications &c. are attached.

Under Secretary of State,

Colonial Office.

I am,

Sir,

Your obedient Servant,

Rebellard

Colonel. Director General.
